Can we also disqualify the person who made that website have a hovering video that can't be removed on mobile?

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 month ago

That’s where the real whipping belongs 🤭

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No such issue using Firefox + U-block Origin.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I am using Firefox mobile with U-block Origin.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you’re on iOS, every browser is basically a reskinned Safari. They all have to use WebKit

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Got it. Wasn’t sure which is why I put that.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Then you have it configured wrong.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Huh. I believe you, just not sure why we're seeing different things. Maybe update/reset Ubluck Origin, especially if you're having issues on other sites? I see the video, but it doesn't autoplay or give for me. Maybe some kind of A/B testing...

Animals shouldn't be part of any sport. Sports are for spoiled fucks anyway

God I hate people

Animals shouldn't be part of any sport.

cool

Sports are for spoiled fucks anyway

unhinged

[–] [email protected] 40 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't agree that sports are for spoiled fucks, but dressage definitely is. The barrier to entry makes golf look egalitarian.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago (3 children)

The barrier to entry

to be fair, this barrier mostly comes from the necessity to involve a horse in the routine, so if the olympics starts allowing pantomime horses as a replacement we're in business

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You mean a dude following someone around with a coconut?

I'm not sure what I expected, but this is better.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

I would actually watch dressage if it only had pantomime horses.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Or other animals. I don't see why you can't bring any animal you want to the animal dance. Yeah sure like maybe an alligator won't make a very good dancer, but why would somebody bring a partner that has no chance of winning?

Canned Lemmy, arrives tainted

Art, sports, leisure, entertainment all need to be banned. They distract the worker from his task of serving the people.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's amazing that people seem to be taking this comment literally

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago

Always hard to tell if they don't know it's a joke or they just find the joke unfunny. I've had much worse lately.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Eh, I don't agree. Sports are a good way for people to get exercise and recreation time in, which are vital for mental and physical health. There are definitely ways to incorporate animals into sports that the animals enjoy and is also good for their mental and physical well-being. We just need to collectively stop being shitty stewards of our animal companions.

Sports for fun cool

Sports for money awful

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 month ago (1 children)

i had to look up "dressage." that it's dumb and pointless doesn't matter, but apparently it's not possible without animal abuse? people are so fucking stupid

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Arguably all Olympic sports are dumb and pointless and don’t matter.

I will accept my internet chastisement now.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

i mean i agree, i don't watch or follow a single sport, olympic or not.

but whipping animals for showing off stupid horse tricks just seems dumber and pointlesser to me...i say the same thing about dog shows, but at least i don't hear about dogs being whipped for it

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Robotics.

They’re also learning some fairly advanced engineering. So it’s fair from pointless

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago

Oh no not dressage

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That crap shouldn’t be in the Olympics. Do the horses get the metal? Cause they’re the ones doing the impressive stuff.

The scary part is that it’s totally real

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 month ago

The core issue with dressage is that they are putting the medal on the wrong neck. The horse is doing all of the work, they deserve all of the credit. Yes, being a dressage rider is (probably) hard work, but so is being a jokey or a wrestling coach. Also, all animal training facilities should automatically be on animal cruelty watch lists and subject to random inspections.

Horses are such amazing creatures. Whipping them is equivalent to whipping children. This lady needs a good paddling.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

Unless she likes it, then she shouldn’t get one

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

I can see why.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

What does the article say? I’m on mobile and even with DNS Adblock all I get is a super loud Ford commercial that links me away from the article if I try to stop it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I thought they removed the part with the horses since the pentathlon incident during the last olympics

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I'm not sure it's possible to remove the horses from the competitive horse dancing event.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

I think synchronised horse swimming has been nixed already.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ah my bad. I assumed it was that case. In pentathlon they get assigned a horse that they don't know and need to perform more or less with a stranger. There was a case of an athlete whipping that horse like crazy last Olympic because it wouldn't do what she wanted

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This just reminded me that there's an amusement park near where I grew up where back in like the twenties and '30s and stuff, the idea of entertainment was to force a horse to run up a giant ramp out above a lake, maybe 50 feet up and have it jump into the water as a high diving horse.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Horse diving, it's still a thing just extremely uncommon and highly defended but the like 5 people that still do it.
