Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

MODERATORS

This should be horrifying news to anyone who knows about Roblox's abuses of child developers and appalling content moderation policy. Here's hoping these are just empty corporate promises and not something more.

*Thousands of adults will meet children

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago (3 children)

The whole list of predictions is brain melting:

10. A Fortune 500 company will use a Roblox experience as part of their recruiting process

9. A school will integrate a full K-12 curriculum with Roblox, including language classes with schools in other countries and virtual field trips

8. For 17+ verified people in 17+ experiences: Thousands of adults will meet for the first time in Roblox dating experiences and subsequently form real life relationships

7. Roblox employees will spend more time using Roblox for remote meetings than with video

6. We will share a universal civility metric, and show that for most players, it increases over time

5. Some Roblox creators will make more money from selling physical merchandise on Roblox than virtual merchandise

4. Roblox will be a frequent communication channel for my family

3. A top fashion designer will be discovered on Roblox, without having any experience in physical fashion

2. A musician will perform live to over 1 [million] people on Roblox, using a phone for motion capture

1. A Roblox developer will be valued at $1 [billion]

What is it with every techbro group and trying to make an "all in one" app/service for people? First Musk with Twitter, now this. Do the bourgeoisie know something we don't about AI? Has the singularity been achieved and we're all about to be plugged into the matrix, and they're just fighting over which brand gets to be that matrix?

I think they really want to make a profit-driven version of WeChat

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They hate centralization unless they own the central entity. I think it's as simple as that. billionaire-tears

Yeah, I guess they just want that monopoly on...every aspect of people's lives. I suppose that is the inevitable "end goal" of capitalism, a single company producing 100% of the profit on everything.

Yeah I almost included that list in the post, every part of the list is horrifying. Roblox should be nationalized or shut down and their executives investigated.

Jesus fucking Christ I hate this stupid everything app metaverse bullshit. Every bougie wants to be the one to do it and none of them do it well! Overambitious idiots ruining things that were perfectly fine (even if Roblox could be called that) by chasing trends and current fads (:kelly:) that just pinky promise them more money, power, and influence.

totally normal children's game

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

they cant pull a minecraft and stick to being a kids game for multiple generations?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Minecraft being pretty damn good at it's core gives it appeal to any age group even if the target demographic is children. Roblox isn't really comparable to Minecraft it terms of core ideas and design.

i kind of really hate the vibes roblox gives me and i dislike that it had a resurgence in popularity over recent years

Some young 18-24 adults might be interested esp for the nostalgia factor. My uni has a roblox server where someone recreated our campus in it. Someone also played roblox music at some big outdoor party once, in a sorta ironic way, but it was somehow hyping everyone up

I doubt many people will use this tho

There's literally no reason to use Roblox over any "real" dating platform unless you're explicitly looking for children
