It's the dunk tank.

This is where you come to post big-brained hot takes by chuds, libs, or even fellow leftists, and tear them to itty-bitty pieces with precision dunkstrikes.

Rule 1: All posts must include links to the subject matter, and no identifying information should be redacted.

Rule 2: If your source is a reactionary website, please use archive.is instead of linking directly.

Rule 3: No sectarianism.

Rule 4: TERF/SWERFs Not Welcome

Rule 5: No ableism of any kind (that includes stuff like libt*rd)

Rule 6: Do not post fellow hexbears.

Rule 7: Do not individually target other instances' admins or moderators.

Rule 8: The subject of a post cannot be low hanging fruit, that is comments/posts made by a private person that have low amount of upvotes/likes/views. Comments/Posts made on other instances that are accessible from hexbear are an exception to this.

Rule 9: if you post ironic rage bait im going to make a personal visit to your house to make sure you never make this mistake again

Debate nerds triggered by someone shooting back with a "stfu nerd" instead of a dissertation.

They're not even debate nerds. I've gone thru debatey discussions with a bunch of them, and they just end up in a circular loop or being condescending and then crying foul when you say they're being condescending.
One of their favorite phrases is "don't put words in my mouth" and "strawman" which is apparently when you quote what they say back at them.

Thanks for the correction!

I take it Inshallah doesn't make sense for past tense like this?

I was intending it like

"if that's what god wills" with a shrug and a shit eating grin

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

You may mean 'mashallah'? I think that one is the past tense, like 'it was Allah's will' but used commonly to mean 'it went well' (thanks to Allah).

I don't think either mashallah or inshallah are used ironically, or at least I haven't heard them used that way, but I'm not am Arabic speaker so can't say for sure. I consulted this page which also has an explainer for Alhamdulillah

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

we've had struggle sessions about it in the past

they are used ironically insofar as most hexbears aren't religious and some part of the usage is an attempt to trigger crackers

that said it's done with all respect to our muslim comrades and most crackers who say god willing aren't religious either

Oh goodness, I don't want to reignite a struggle sesh. I was hoping to provide further info given the difference in tense difference masha/insha, and that actual Arabic speakers may have other ways (words) to convey what OP wanted to say.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

oh no you didn't, don't worry

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

If anything it was I who almost did

But instead I learned some more stuff about Arabic words and syntax!

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

ah yeah mashallah more fitting that 'thank god' then

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 year ago

They don’t care about the truth, they just want an excuse to be self righteous

Some are very fond of calling other people "bots" while continuing to reply to those supposed bots.

Even when you give them a dissertation they get pissed off. They assume how debate works is they say their "right" opinion and then everyone realizes how smart they are and they get a free blowjob. The second they get actually solid push-back they get panicked.
