It's not accurate to say Afghanistan had nothing to do with it. The Taliban government were directly helping to hide Bin Laden after the fact, and obviously it was not going to do anything to stop violent extremism, rather it was going to reward and encourage it.

I didn't support it when it started, and I certainly didn't support all twenty of the years we spent there, but I believe now that the decision to overthrow the Taliban at least initially was the right one. Maybe some people in Washington pushed and went along with it as a handout to the oil and defense industries, but I think most of the legislators went with it because they truly believed, as I do, that overthrowing the Taliban and helping the people build a new state, with real institutions, was a path towards securing lasting human rights to millions of people. No religious dictatorship can grant human rights, it's not theirs to give.

All the real estate Russians have bought from Trump and the massive loans, by itself, compromises his ability to be neutral on matters of national security. That makes him an asset to our enemy.

Right, it's not just a foreign power, it's that it's an enemy. All around the world Russia is literally attacking our allies. They attacked us by interfering in the 2016 election.

To go in front of the nation and bend the knee to an enemy who has attacked us and who is attacking our allies around the world should be immediately disqualifying.

Our alliances are what make us the world's only superpower.

Digging is fun. If I had more money, I might hire a fleet of trucks and dig a big hole just cause. Did it as a kid in the sandbox, why not as an adult? And, if you fill it back up nice and smooth it out, it's like it was never there. But if you take out all the carbon, and send it off to be burned, does it really matter an iota of fuck if they plant some trees after?

It's like, ignoring the consequences of our public policy doesn't make those consequences less real. By failing to make the public aware of such consequences, the media becomes an accomplice to policy failures.
