Not sure where to ask so as being a lemmy.world user, I'd thought it made the most sense to come to this support community.

top 11 comments
sorted by: hot top controversial new old

"Active (default): Calculates a rank based on the score and time of the latest comment, with decay over time

Hot: Like active, but uses time when the post was published"

https://join-lemmy.org/docs/users/03-votes-and-ranking.html#votes-and-ranking

With that said... I have seen people comment in the past month that the active vs hot sorting might be a bit buggy still. Most (including myself) seem to prefer using the various top sorts.

Hope that helps!

Yeah i use top 6h instead of active, works a bit better for me.

I'm on KBin.

Active is either brand new threads like this one (at the time of posting this comment) or older threads with lots of actual activity in terms of comments and upvotes.

Hot is generally more consistent in showing threads from within the last 24 hours, including threads with smaller amounts of activity.

In my case it doesn't matter, I have scrolled too far and basically hot means new and active means hot 6 days ago lol.

(I deactivated the show post features on Lemmy website, so this change applies to all the apps).

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Pretty much the same. Active tends to stick around a bit longer than I'd prefer.

I deactivated the show post features on Lemmy website

What did you deactivate and how?

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

There is an option in the Lemmy website that it is called show read posts, when you disable it all your read posts are hidden, and this setting does the same behavior for the Lemmy apps, I think only Jerboa and Summit have Lemmy web preferences, lately I have been interacting with this from Summit.

I can never keep straight Active, Hot, and Top. They all seem to say the same thing.

Active: recently added & upvoted comments (including older posts)

Hot: recently upvoted posts

Top: the most upvoted posts in the specified timeframe

Thanks! I'll have to print this out and stick it to the bulletin board. :)
