Enough Musk Spam

For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

It has always been the case that way more people talk about Twitter than use it. From the start it has been a media darling with a underwhelming user base, and an even lower participation rate.

The thing that gave it value was the amount of celebrity presence. And as long as celebrities are on it it will be relevant, no matter what Muskie does to cripple it. As soon as there's a new platform with a growing celebrity presence people will flock there and twitx will die off slowly.

I’m heavily invested in sports. Literally everything when it comes to my team gets posted there first. There’s just no other way to get the content.

I suppose I could visit 20 pages a day and be on the lookout, but I’d miss the most interesting things, the discussion. Unfortunately they only happen there.

I can imagine many are in my situation, but with other hobbies.

Same here. I curate the shit out of my feed so it’s only sports. The people I follow the second any start getting political I block them.

Don't worry, musk has floated taking away the block feature, soon there will be no way to avoid the politics and just focus on what you love.

You will see the hate, you will see the anger, you will engage. Resistance is futile

Meh. I’ll just leave at that point… my team’s news will make its way to me eventually

I wonder how much you could move those feeds to RSS.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

@hansl @Mesaji @ribboo 90% of my internet consumption is via RSS.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I could move most news to RSS, but that would also mean an overflow of news and getting the same tidbit from 15 outlets. But regardless, so much of the great content and thoughts is user based. And that content I couldn’t get through RSS. And in all honesty, that content is much more interesting and valuable.

Most people don't give a shit about politics and would rather not hear about them. So they don't.

Twitter, for them, is about connecting to friends. Connecting to hobby groups. That sort of thing. And Twitter is mostly still useful for them. So they don't even notice the tire fire building up around them.

I heard the recent changes make it so that all the political bullshit got shoveled into your face constantly. Idk, I'm not on there, but I could swear a lot of folks complained that it was unbearable, so they must be putting in some effort to ignore all of that if true.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

The kinds of people complaining are likely being fed contentious politics because that's what's in their feed and thus what Teh Alegortyhm is feeding them. If all that's in your feed is pictures of daisies and the occasional rose, the same system will likely feed you flowers.

legitimately: i make and consume gay porn and it’s easily the best place to post for my exhibitionism fetish, despite all the bullshit which hasn’t effected that niche use-case all that much

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is there just straight up porn on twitter? Like all i know from twitter is from random screenshots. And is there a reason you don't post on pornhub and link that to an OF or something?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

yup! you can only post 2:20 vids so often you link out to a longer vid anyway, but it’s good to just scroll through a few vids… new stuff all the time

you can post to pornhub/OF/JFF but a bunch of my friends post too and it’s much better to be able to have a reasonable social platform attached to it for RT and replies

twitter is for the discovery and social side

Sunk cost fallacy.

My friends and artists and games are there. I would stop if they did. I prefer Mastodon by far. I think it's a better product. Sadly, people seem to be moving to blue sky which has the same fundamental weakness as Twitter. Sigh.

Many reasons, but among them is that all of my political representatives are there. I can read what they’re saying about current situations, and they actually respond when I send requests for information that don’t sound like I’m an unhinged person.

edit: just realized this post is a month old, better late than never I guess

I stopped using Twitter in favor of X
