From the FAQ:

How can you be "independent" if you have sponsors?

All sponsorships are in the form of unrestricted donations. Board seats and other forms of influence are not for sale.

Well this is refreshing. What they're taking on is a monumental task though. Glad they're building an engine from scratch, let's hope they keep on it and don't lose faith.
