Introductions

1 readers
1 users here now

Howdy! This is a comm for new and old users alike to introduce themselves and what their hobbies/interests are. This is also a good place to ask questions on anything you'd like to know more about, and generally to get acquainted with Hexbear and its users.

Rule #1: DON'T DOX YOURSELF - Don't post/comment any personal identifying information. Obviously it's ok to talk about yourself, but make sure there is no information that could potentially lead to doxxing yourself.

Rule #2: BE NICE - Assume everyone making a post here is doing so in good faith. Keep in mind that people introducing themselves may have limited knowledge of site history, in-jokes, etc. Also keep in mind that new people might not have the same understanding of leftist theory and/or knowledge of global politics that you do. We were all there once, so it's not a bad thing to be reasonably understanding and patient with new folks. Likewise, for those who are introducing yourselves, please have an open mind, be willing to interact and make friends, and don't come here with the intent to start fights.

Rule #3: DON'T BE A JERK - Any sort of transphobia, racism, homophobia, ableism, or other forms of bigotry will lead to an immediate ban. Similarly, harassment, being a creep, "chaser" behavior, or anything else done to make others feel uncomfortable will be dealt with harshly. Also try to keep any fediverse drama to a minimum. It's assumed new users are posting here to make friends and not to wade into any previous or existing conflict between instances, so please be respectful of that.

Rule #4: TRY TO BE HELPFUL - It's encouraged to help newcomers wherever possible, including explaining various aspects of this community, providing helpful resources, sharing similar interests you may have, and suggesting comms that they may be interested in.

Rule #5: USE CONTENT WARNINGS - For anything that might be considered a sensitive topic, please use the spoiler format along with a content warning to give people a heads up on what is being discussed.

If anyone has any feedback or any suggestions for improvement to this comm, don't hesitate to reach out to the mods here. Thanks!

hey everyone, my name is Clover, some of my interests include but are not limited to:

  • cooking
  • touching computers
  • biology/genetic engineering
  • chemistry
  • mechanical things/machines of all kinds

I'm in my early 20s and politically very much a communist, I had my edgier days back in my teens but I mellowed out and was quickly radicalized through second thought and hasanabi (people who make videos on youtube) and have since gone on to read books (unbelievable achievement) in order to understand more theory.

I love making Chinese and Arab food the most, I also love baking sweets, cheesecake is the best kind of cake :3

genderly speaking, I am a trans woman, which is something I only accepted fairly recently (in the past two years) after suppressing those feelings for a very long time due to life circumstances

transphobiaThe British really fucked me when they exported their homophobia/transphobia to the middle east through colonization. The general imperialist destabilization and destruction in the region really doesn't make things better either, especially with how thoroughly the NATO/CIA backed religious fundamentalist anti-communists have succeeded in wiping out progressive movements in the region, I'll leave eventually, but stealth until then.

cri

anyway

I like making electronics and soldering, I even fully built and soldered and programmed a keyboard which is very comfy to type on it's one of those weird looking keyboard that are split in two pieces and don't have that many keys.

I'm somewhere on the autism spectrum and don't like to go outside much, but when I do I sometimes like to go to quiet places that have nature and trees and walk around a bit and look at the birds or the leaves.

I enjoy shitposting and doing the whole 'catgirl' type thing occasionally, I also like table top rpgs (mainly DnD but I've been playing with a few others like starfinder).

oh I also like playing puzzle games and automation games, stuff like factorio, and roguelites are cool too (and yes I have also played Celeste as every trans girl does).

I like urbanism and trains and stuff too but that's pretty standard around these parts from what I've seen. (finally, leftist unity through everyone agreeing trains are cool)

I think I've rambled on enough, I am glad to have found this place through a friend's recommendation (shoutout @[email protected] ), I was somewhat aware of hexbear before but only really looked into it after she told me more about it.

Welcome! meow-coffee

I also really enjoy cooking, especially baking. I love cheesecake, but haven't tried making one yet.

welcome welcome! It's a shame I became lactose intolerant, I can't experience the glories of cheesecake powercry-2

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

funny you should say that :3 , you must use experimental genetic engineering techniques on yourself to experience the glory of cheesecake. (or you know, just take a lactaid pill before)

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

lol, I still havent tested lactaid bc it's probably just cheaper to cut milk out of my diet rather than using it. but i should so i can enjoy ice cream again :)

Yet another Middle Eastern trans person. One day we will conquer the world.

Chemistry and engineering are incredibly based hobbies. Out of curiosity, is your custom keyboard n-rollover?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

ohhh it's nice to see someone else from the region here! I've actually never talked to another trans person from here before, I should look for spaces with queer middle eastern people, I'd also like to chat more with you if you're willing.

Out of curiosity, is your custom keyboard n-rollover?

it's either 6 or 8-key rollover, I don't remember which, arduino pro micros are somewhat limited especially since I've got almost 60 keys and was not willing to design a matrix (or incorporate a design) that can do the full rollover, I did look into it a little bit and there was a few articles on a key matrix design published by a Japanese person somewhere but it's been more than a year so I don't fully remember much about it.

If you want to talk about ME or just in general you can DM me. I am shy so I probably won't be the first to message.

Heyo! I love how diverse your interests are, and genuine you sound when talking about each of them.

I love making Chinese and Arab food the most, I also love baking sweets, cheesecake is the best kind of cake :3

Heck yeah. I no longer bake (my current oven is kinda shit) but still cook Chinese food on the regular. What's your favourite dish to make? Do you watch Chef Wang Gang?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I love how diverse your interests are

believe it or not there are more :p these are just the main one

What's your favourite dish to make?

for Chinese food, my favorite has to be a pretty simple chicken fried rice, with lots of veg, garlic, and spices

Do you watch Chef Wang Gang?

never heard of them tbh

Good stuff.

Wang Gang is a Chinese chef who started putting out instructional videos and recipes online, he's got a YouTube channel now which publishes subtitled videos weekly.

Compared to other YT cooking channels, Chef Wang is v humble and his vids are far less flashy, which I find easier to watch and learn from. Just wanted to give him a plug in case you find it useful!
