I upvote as a marked as read function (:

[–] [email protected] 27 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I use downvotes for that on YouTube ever since they gutted downvotes lmao

[–] [email protected] 11 points 9 months ago

i quit premium when they did that, i use yt to search for info, and they took a tool i use to sort sources and save time

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

So that's why it kept recommending the same videos I have watched? Just because I haven't voted?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

I do the same.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 10 months ago (2 children)

My favorite is downvoting both sides of a political discussion when both sides have stopped citing interesting arguments/facts, and have devolved to name calling or some variant of “don’t care”.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 months ago

That's the best! I hardly ever downvote just cause I disagree-- Most of my downvotes are because I think someone is being mean or antagonistic.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

I like just down voting at random.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 9 months ago

I downvoted my own comment.

Thank you for the content OP

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

It's not easy posting content as some mods get butt hurt over jokes but all you can do is keep trying I guess?

Ni hao madafaka

[–] [email protected] 11 points 9 months ago (3 children)

This is a dumb way to think. You upvote if the content is good or you like it, and you downvoted if it's bad or you dislike it.

Upvoting any post means garbage can be pushed to the front page, like this!

Someone called my brother?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

When there is competition for the front page, this is a valid consideration.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Even if there weren't competition (and there definitely is, spend some time in the New feed if you want to see some really bad posts that don't make it there); I'd still want the best ones on top.

I believe your head onto something though it sounds very important and secretive so cannot give a meaningful comment

[–] [email protected] 10 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Isn't this meme getting a little overused?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You complain about overused memes on Lemmy. I complain that my butt itches. We are not the same.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

Haha, very funny.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 months ago

Maybe, but someone keeps upvoting just because it's content so every cow is milkable on these fertile lands

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It was overused the first time it was used. "We are not the same" is such elitist garbage. I can't believe a meme used for looking down on people and being arrogant has seen such wide use.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

While I agree that some folk would do anything to see themselves above other people I think you might be missing the irony of the meme

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago

Yeah lol it's almost always ironic-- "You do this thing for some normal reason. I do it for a weird reason that may reveal a salient character flaw."

If somebody did use it to actually self-elevate or gatekeep, that would be pretty cringe. But almost all of the usage I see is ironic.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

I upvote because I'm on beehaw.. and fairly sure I can't downvote

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I downvote because "content" is a bullshit word made up by C-suite jackasses to describe a budget line item. I upvote for art I appreciate, questions that are good questions asked in good faith, news and information that are informative. "Content" is only a thing if your job is "gather eyeballs for ad revenue", a phenomenon which can't even exist on Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Just gotta keep re-reminding people from time to time. We get a lot of newcomers still, and probably will for the foreseeable future, so some bad habit bleed-over from other internet spaces is pretty inevitable.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 10 months ago (2 children)

One of them is the self censoring. People don't realise that lemmy doesn't need to cater to advertisers so we can say things as we please.

An example would be:

I WANT NAZIS TO BE VIOLENTLY BEAT UP AND HAVE THEIR KNEECAPS BROKEN. BILLIONAIRES NEED TO BE PUT IN GUILLOTINES

And I won't get something as silly as a sidewide ban.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

And no cunt algorithm to bury content just cause of some fucking cursewords.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I suspect it will be deleted though... 😂

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Haven't had that happen yet so

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

I've just started posting threads today and 2 deleted so far so there's hope, just keep holding out!

[–] [email protected] -2 points 9 months ago

Which is why the Lemmy community is absolute garbage.
